The Sd.Kfz.7/1 is a Sd.Kfz.7 with a anti aircraft gun (Flak 38 of Flak 'vierling') mounted on the back and sometimes fitted with an armored cab. Revell released their kit (no. 03195) of the Sd.Kfz.7/1 a few days ago and I bought 2. Time to take a look at this much awaited model!
The model is of course based on the 'tractor' version of the Sd.Kfz.7 released last year. Only the tracks and chassis sprues are used in this kit. 3 completely new sprues are included, one includes most parts of the armored cab, one most parts of the ammunition trailer and one most parts of the Flak 'vierling'.
Some photo's of the new sprue's and parts. Just as with the Sd.Kfz.7 some details (like the nuts on the armored cab) are very fine & small and difficult to make out in the pictures. The mesh on the floor plate on the back of the vehicle seems to be a little on coarse side while the detail on the sides of the back is very well done.
Some close ups of the sprue's:
I build most of the gun and trailer already. The fit of the parts is very good. The gun can both rotate and transverse when completed. The chassis of the trailer is not the some as the chassis of the trailer from the kommandogerät 40 included with the Flak 36 kit. the kommandogerät trailer is even more finely detailed.
This kit is a very nice addition to Revell's range of vehicles and a very welcome one too. The only other model of the Sd.Kfz.7/1 is the Hasegawa model (without the armoured cab). Although Hasegawa's tractor version of the Sd.Kfz.7/1 is not bad the Anti Aircraft version is really outclassed by this release from Revell. The superstructure and gun on this model is simply decades ahead of the Hasegawa's. The ammunution trailer is a very nice bonus too!
